Moire Brown

In MARINE SERRE’s collections, moire – a wavy-textured jacquard fabric whose artisanal technique was used to furnish 17th and 18th-century interiors – is employed as a recycled fabric blend with a psychedelic air and a distinctive shine.

New for this season, Moon Checks Jacquard is an RWS-certified wool jacquard that is woven in Italy and features a fusion of the Marine Serre Moon and a check pattern in neutral earth tones. Italian tailoring has strongly permeated the new collection, which has been constructed as an ode to the country’s savoir-faire. After conducting extensive research into potential new tailoring materials — always with the challenge of sourcing dormant fabrics suitable for generation — we settled upon rolls of red and grey fabric, the basis of the Regenerated Tailoring range. For men, a fitted double-breasted jacket designed for formal occasions is joined by an elongated jacket with exaggerated shoulders that’s versatile enough to appeal to women too. Women’s garments include a coat and jacket whose discreet shoulders, simple button closure and generously open neckline recall the Moon Airbrushed leather suit jacket. Sensual, lighter pieces include a strapless dress cinched above the bust by a removeable leather belt, and a pleated mini skirt. Pair it with one of the collection’s knits for a collegiate look.

Each MARINE SERRE collection proposes a new mode of living on a damaged planet. A transformation of everyday objects and neglected materials that get here a new purpose, form and duration. The State of Soul collection presents clever spins on the iconic and colourful twinsets of ‘90s Parisian runways—devised from upcycled jacquard towels, to create the perfect outfits for the infernal temperatures of our global-warming reality.

Python Print

For this season, our designers took inspiration from the patterns and motifs of rainforest snakes to create a motif that could be applied as a trompe l’oeil to several of our materials. It features soft shades of grey and beige, tones that are omnipresent in this collection. As is usual for many of our trompe l'oeil motifs, the print has been manipulated to curve along the shape of the body, just as if the snakeskin garment was the wearer’s outer skin.

All the cotton Marine Serre sources for Borderline is GOTS-certified — this world-leading textile processing standard chiming with the house’s own well-known commitment to protecting the planet. In terms of the silhouettes across these ranges, we wanted to offer a wide range of everyday styles that are directly inspired by the world of sportswear. Our Moon Logo Jersey lines come in a range of traditional colours (white, black and grey, but in most cases lilac too) spun out across t-shirts, tanks and dresses, as well as underwear. These garments are finished in the classic way familiar from sportwear garments, with our Moon Logo in raised embroidery just below the neckline.

The All Over Moon print is the House's symbol, representing its qualities and vision of Futurewear, which have not changed since the House's debut with RADICAL CALL FOR LOVE. Indeed, what is perhaps the House's most popular line takes its values to heart with a jersey made entirely from recycled materials.

Draped Statue Dark Beige

Trompe l’oeil prints have been one of the tricks in Marine Serre’s playbook since the beginning. The inspiration for this line came from the almost impossibly perfect bodies of statues — think Michaelangelo’s David — which we have recreated as a digital print on our recycled technical jersey. The jersey mesh creates a strong chiaroscuro effect across the garments, as black shadows deepen at the sides of the torso, neck, arms and hems. The prominent abdominal muscles (no gym membership required) add to the sporty-yet-artistic effect, with digitally printed scarves ‘draped’ diagonally across the bust, arms or (in the case of the catsuit and leggings) the crotch and legs. A seasonal tube dress echoes the top half of the crewneck and catsuit but adds a sari-style skirt with florals and netting to underscore the travel cues of the wider collection. The men’s high-neck top also picks up on the netting and is a more minimal club-ready design.
