Marine Serre first showed upcycled tote bags in the F/W 2023 Collection Rising Shelter, which made waves with its column-shaped cages of discarded clothing. Inspired by the designer’s optimism despite rapid climate change, this range begins life with the careful selection of cotton totes according to their quality and the appeal of their multicultural patterns. Reimagined as Marine Serre Couture pieces, their sui generis graphics leap out from the ecru fabric, tapping into the longing for travel that underpins the entire collection, as each carries different places and stories within it. Unisex garments are inflected by streetwear styles. There’s a bomber jacket with a generous volume, alongside wide workwear pants, button-up and bowling shirts, and tailored shorts. A standout trench features the tote’s handles hanging down its back. For women, the bustier present in the Regenerated Denim range introduces a pleasing clash between the material and the sensual bodycon design. Pieces feature a printed Marine Serre logo and, owing to the upcycling approach, each is one of a kind.
